Last year, Colorado companies raised $6.5 billion in venture funding, topping the previous record of $2.7 billion set in 2019 and repeated in 2020, according to new data released by PitchBook in its quarterly Venture Monitor report. That number dwarfs Colorado funding in 2006, PitchBook’s first year of tracking, that totaled $775 million.

According to PitchBook’s metropolitan data, Denver raised $6.1 billion across 399 deals last year, outpacing Miami’s $4 billion across 272 deals and Austin’s $4.9 billion from 387 deals.

“We’re kind of doing it in a way that’s more about hard work, adding value and maybe less flash than other places over the last few years,” Natty said.
